Description

This delicious crispy chicken dish is coated in a sweet and tangy sauce, making it a perfect addition to any meal!


Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken breast, diced
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Green onions, for garnish
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, coat the diced chicken in cornstarch and let it sit for about 15 minutes.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat.
  3. Carefully toss in the chicken pieces and fry until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Remove the chicken and set aside on a paper towel-lined plate.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together soy sauce, sugar, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes.
  6. In the same pan, pour the sauce mixture and bring to a gentle simmer.
  7. Add the fried chicken back into the pan and coat it evenly with the sauce for another 2-3 minutes.
  8. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, you can double coat the chicken by dipping it in egg before the cornstarch.
  • This dish pairs well with rice or noodles.
